Getting from Puerto Vallarta Airport to Sayulita

Sayulita sits about 45 minutes to an hour north of Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) in Puerto Vallarta. There's no single "best" way to make the trip — it depends on your budget, group size, and how much you value convenience over cost. Here's every option.

Taxi

Airport taxi stands charge a premium — around 700 pesos one-way — because of airport taxes built into the fare. It's the easiest option if you've just landed and want to go straight to Sayulita, but it's usually cheaper to arrange a round-trip transfer in advance with a Sayulita-based company than to flag a taxi at the stand.

Private Transfer / Car Service

For families, groups, or anyone who wants a driver waiting with a sign, a private SUV transfer is the most comfortable option. Local companies (Sayulita Suburban Services, Amanecer Luxury Transportation, and Comfortours Sayulita are commonly used) will often stop at a grocery store on the way if you ask, and they run on your schedule rather than a fixed departure time.

Shared Shuttle

A shared shuttle splits the cost across passengers headed the same direction, making it cheaper than a private transfer while still being more comfortable than public transport. It's a good middle ground if you're traveling solo or as a couple.

Bus (Compostela Line)

The budget option: white and green "Sayulita" buses run from the airport roughly every 20 minutes between 6am and 10pm, for about 46 pesos. You'll need to cross the highway via the pedestrian bridge outside the airport to reach the stop. It takes longer than a direct transfer but costs a fraction of the price.

Rental Car

All the major agencies operate out of PVR, and driving yourself gives you the most flexibility once you're in Sayulita and the surrounding area. Book ahead online or through a travel agent rather than at the counter for better rates.

A Few Practical Tips

  • Book early-morning transfers the day before, and confirm again the night before — taxi availability before 7am can be limited.
  • Round-trip transfers booked directly with a Sayulita company are usually cheaper than two one-way airport taxis.
  • Traffic on the highway north of Puerto Vallarta can add 15–20 minutes during peak holiday periods — build in a buffer if you have a flight to catch.
